David Moffat

david moffat pct picture april 2012As an executive and entrepreneur, David Moffat has 20 years’ experience in strategy, business development and growing organizations across global markets. Passionate about cleantech and harnessing markets to drive environmental and social performance, David helps build innovative organizations.

As Managing Director at Pacific Carbon Trust, David played an instrumental role in creating and growing the corporation and a new carbon market. In doing so, he built one of the largest carbon offset portfolios in North America. David both directly managed and led a team that closed contracts valued at over $52MM, including on many heavy industry, cleantech and first-of-a-kind projects. Also responsible for the firm’s commercial growth strategy and business development, David spearheaded new market entry and partner relationship management.

Previously, David led strategic marketing and sustainability at Clark Sustainable Resource Developments. Prime Minister Joe Clark founded CSRD to develop the global submerged timber industry. As part of the management team, David quickly established strategic partnerships in a challenging developing country context, including negotiating a joint venture with one of Europe’s largest hardwood distributors.

At DEKA Research and Development, founded by the renowned innovator, Dean Kamen, David directed product management and business development for clean energy and water technologies targeting emerging markets, including the Slingshot Program described in a 2014 documentary. He assessed launch markets and built partnerships for product development and market trials with Fortune 500 companies, entrepreneurs and governments in the US and Asia. He also structured over two dozen land acquisitions for The Nature Conservancy in New England. David began his career managing development projects and programs for the World Bank and subsequently launched an NGO working throughout Eastern Africa.

David holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a Masters of Environmental Management from Yale University. He is an advisor to startups and past Chair of the Capital Regional District Roundtable on the Environment
